Valentine’s Day at Warner Bros. Records

Valentine’s Day is a special time at Warner Bros. Records. It’s a time where material possessions and other various arbitrary trinkets are used to communicate just how strongly we feel about that special someone. Here at Warner Bros. Records, size really does matter, as illustrated by Rachel Howard’s Valentine’s Day Tree…

Unfortunately, not everyone can be loved as much as Rachel Howard. For our very own Tim Carhart, size apparently is an issue. But as you can see, he is ready to compensate for any shortcomings with that amazingly authentic smile. How could you not be his valentine?

The Gig Gets Sweeter

Probably the ultimate in perks of interning at a record label is the opportunity to see great shows and meet amazing musicians. I got to take advantage of this perk on a mini roadtrip from Los Angeles up to the Bay Area over the weekend. One of our artists, Against Me! is playing a national tour with the Foo Fighters. Thus it seemed like the perfect opportunity to jump in the Avenged Sevenfold street team van and drive up to the Oracle Arena in Oakland to see some good music and hang out with some good people. Early Saturday morning, after very little sleep, Chris Trovero (our fearless intern leader), Will (who books shows for Meg & Dia, another great band on our roster), and I started on our adventure. I’m just going to list the highlights since the trip was so epic it’s hard to explain in complete sentences. So here goes…

-Stopped by Pirates Press when we first got into the city. This phenomenal CD and vinyl manufacturer has put out some really amazing stuff and had done some cool work with Warner. We picked up some sweet swag and chatted with some awesome people.

-After a quick stop at Ritual coffee and hooking up the biggest Avenged Sevenfold fan in the Mission district with stickers and other goodies, we headed out to Oakland for the show. I’ve never been to a show this big so it was definitely an experience of a lifetime. Against Me! rocked out an amazing set, then the Foo Fighters took the stage to a packed arena. Both bands sounded unbelievable. Part of the stage drops down from the ceiling for the Foos to play acoustic!

-Hung out backstage in the AM! dressing room: free food, free drinks, foosball table, and the nicest dudes you will ever meet.

-I chest bumped Dave Grohl! TWICE! He came in to play some foosball after the show and I wanted to do more than just high five him! I think I got some of his sweat on me…it smelled like rock’n’roll.

-Spent $89 on In-n-Out Burger at 1:30 in the morning. Everyone was starving, and it was the only thing open. Twenty double doubles, 12 orders of fries, and a Neapolitan shake! Warren Oakes powered through three!

-3 am Super Bowl of our own in the parking lot in the pouring rain with all of the AM! boys, nice kids from Fat Wreck Chords, and our roadtripping crew. It was a close game. Highlights included a mind-blowing interception by Tom Gabel, a sweet catch in the endzone by Will, and the game-winning touchdown by Warren. Those six burger patties and six pieces of cheese must have turned him a football superstar! These boys play football as hard as they rock. Check YouTube in the future to hopefully see some of the footage we caught on video. A rematch is scheduled for when the tour comes to L.A.; those rockstars are going down next time!

Early Sunday morning, we got back on the road back to sunny Los Angeles. We made it back just in time to see Tom Petty rock the Super Bowl halftime show. All in all, this was a once in a lifetime trip that I will never forget. Thanks Warner Bros!

Crush the Guitar Hero!

Just another day in the Wedge, hanging out with the Used, except I had to answer the phone like the good intern I am. Bert took a break from singing Paramore’s “Crush” to not look at the camera, while Jeph was too distracted by shredding up GuitarHero to pay attention.
Sincerely,

This is who we are!

Hey guys,

Seeing to it this is the first blog we’re posting, we should probably tell you a little about our internship at Warner Brother Records. We intern for Xavier Ramos and Chris Trovero. Our roster includes: Avenged Sevenfold, Against Me!, Glassjaw, Head Automatica, Idiot Pilot, Mastodon, My Chemical Romance, Meg & Dia, Melee, MURS, Single File, Spinnerette, and The Used.

We’re not going to lie. Interning for a major label is a pretty sweet gig. We get to meet the artists we work with and hear new music before it’s released. Label VPs even take us out for lunch.

Now that the introduction is done with, we can tell you the low down of today. This morning, while I—Shilpa— was working on sending out some Avenged Sevenfold Front of the Line Pass’s, Emilio—another intern— came in and asked if I was stoked about Idiot Pilot coming to visit the label. I was DEFINITELY caught off guard. A lot of people don’t know much about Idiot Pilot, but I got a copy of their CD from Chris a while back and really liked their eerie sound (imagine if Alkaline Trio and Straylight Run made music together).

Michael and Daniel came in, had a meeting, and hung out. They ended up being hilarious, laid back guys, which wasn’t too surprising since they looked like cool guys in the ‘Retina and The Sky’ music video. We all had lunch together and talked about their upcoming winter tour. That was pretty sweet since it has not been announced yet. Later, we went down to the merch showcase room and they got styled out in a sick hoodie from Mute Math and a hoodie from Mastodon

Being an intern at WBR is seriously the most exciting job ever. No one ever really knows who is gonna come in or what happens behind these doors. The lifestyle is fast-paced and electrifying.
On the minutes where we do have downtime, we enjoy brushing up our Guitar Hero skills (you never know when Murs might drop by and challenge you to a quick go at "Carry on Wayward Son"). We also occasionally study Soulja Boy "Crank That" instructional videos via YouTube and perfect our moves in the middle of the office. When it's time for lunch we like to roll six deep in the company golf cart and joy ride the WB Backlot (just make sure your names are at the gate - WB security doesn't mess around). There's also Mongolian Grill, or more affectionately known as 'Delicious Bowl.' Sweet talk the owner and enjoy many a Delicious Refill. Take the Avenged Sevenfold (formerly HIM) Van and save yourself some gas.

Sincerely yours,
The Warner Bloggers (BRETT AND SHILPA)

P.S. Try the Josh Groban/Michael Buble cookies. They’re delicious.

... and so it begins...

Welcome to the Warner Bloggers Records Intern Department. Located within the Warner Brothers Records A&R and Marketing Departments in the "ski lodge" of Burbank, CA. This blog is the destination for all of the things that we get involved in while working our internship at Warner Brothers Records. It's a sexy place to get ridiculous, and learn about the music industry.
